Business News: Jobless Claims Fall, Shoppers Spend

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fewer U.S. workers applied for state unemployment benefits last week, the government said on Thursday in a report that nevertheless showed a soft labor market as ongoing claims climbed to a 19-year high.
