Retail News: Sears loss balloons in first quarter
Operating profit improves but Eatons closings take big chunk out of bottom line

TORONTO -- Sears Canada Inc., predicting a continuing tough retail market, said yesterday first-quarter operating profit improved but that it recorded a final loss of $115.9-million as a result of a huge writedown tied to the closing of its Eatons division.
